| Women of God In a changing world, Christian women hold on to an unchanging hand: God's hand. |
| STRUGGLES AS WOMEN IN THE CHURCH by Marilyn LaStrape We as women have a very unique place in God’s plan for the redemption of mankind. In and out of the church we as women are being bombarded from all sides regarding our role in this world! We are constantly being told that we need to change our God-given role as helpers to leaders in the forefront, and to be equal in all realms with our men. Because of this prevalent mind set, too often we want to take over where we have no God given authority in our homes or in the church! We step into issues that God has determined is for the men as husbands and/or leaders rather than letting Him work it out through them and not us! Some of us women are driven by an insatiable need to control and this is a constant struggle. This need to control is one we will have to constantly fight because it has been with us virtually since the beginning. It began with Adam and Eve and continued through Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Rachel, and on and on and on! precious in the sight of God.” Having that gentle and quiet spirit is most definitely the struggle for so many precious in the sight of God.” Having that gentle and quiet spirit is most definitely the struggle for so many of us women in the church! of us women in the church! In the church there is work to be done on every hand. Those women, who are working as hard as they can, really struggle with the apathy of others! When announcements are made regarding areas of service such as the need for Bible class teachers; visiting the sick; preparing the communion; nursery attendants; preparing food for the sick/shut ins/funerals; coordinators and assistants for Ladies’ Day programs; community outreach in benevolence and teaching the word, there is too much begging that goes on! Jesus actually names six areas of service for all of us in the judgment scene of Matthew 25:31-46. Jesus said, “When I was hungry, you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.” (Verses 35-36) Notice six times our Lord uses the personal pronoun “you” in these passages addressing service! Just in case we as women were wondering what God has mandated as our specific role of responsibility and authority, it is found in Titus 2:3-5. “The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things – that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” We will be held accountable to these commandments! How do we endure in spite of all the setbacks, annoyances, and ambivalence we see in the church? Our brother the apostle Paul gives these words of encouragement; “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (I Corinthians 15:58) “Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.” (Philippians 4:1) |
