Saved By Grace
                                           by Tony Edwards

God's grace has always been an essential factor in man's salvation. The word grace means unmerited
favor. This favor is something that we can not work for but something that was given as a gift. Speaking
about man's salvation, the apostle Paul said,
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that
not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast"
(Eph. 2:8-9).

Yes, grace is necessary for salvation. It is a must! And when we stop to consider our worth in the eyes of
God, we can conclude that grace is precious.  For, as far back as the Garden of Eden man turned his
back on God (Gen 3:6ff). No longer were his thoughts pure but
“…every imagination of the thoughts of his
heart was only evil continually.”
(Gen 3:5). Even this profound statement of the Psalmist: “The fool hath
said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that
doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that
did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none
that doeth good, no, not one.”
(Ps 14:1-3). Thus Paul would conclude that “… all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God;”
(Rom 3:23).

One of my favorite verses in the entire Bible is found in Romans 5:6-8. Here in these verses lies the
picture of grace:
"For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man
someone would even dare to die.But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in
that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Even though God's grace was shown in the Old Testament, Christ was the ultimate extension of grace.
Paul affirmed, "I thank my God always concerning you for the Grace of God which was given to you by
Christ Jesus" (1 Cor. 1:4). Anyone who rejects Christ rejects grace; the two are inseparable. And since we
need Jesus to be saved, it is of necessity that we need GRACE.

(Grace alone doesn't save. You must be cleansed by CHRIST'S BLOOD)
